Drill Presses

Scroll down to see the drill presses for sale.

A drill press is a fairly simple machine, and helps you greatly by letting you bore very accurate holes quickly. Inexpensive bench mounted models are available, putting them easily in reach.

Drill press size is measured by twice the distance from the center of the cutting spindle to the support column. The logic is that a circle of X diameter could have it's center bored in a machine of X capacity.

You can use a drill press to bore square holes for mortises by using a mortising attachment. Make sure the mortising attachment you get will fit your drill press. Also, you can put a small drum sander in the drill press for smoothing the edges of curved parts. I've heard of putting router bits in a drill press, but the maximum speed of a drill press is nowhere near that of a router, so I doubt you could get a very smooth cut this way. But, heh, surprise me.
