Files and Rasps

Finer files, such as mill files, are for cutting metal and have fine teeth. You can use them on wood but the fine teeth tend to get clogged with dust. Heavier files work better on wood because they clog less. Use rasps where you need to remove a lot of material in a hurry, but be prepared for a lot of scraping or sanding to clean up the "raspy" surface they leave!
